Keep a civil tongue in your head: While the phrase means speak politely, I think that it could also apply to gestures made with the tongue.
One of the most distasteful and offensive things I see people doing in photos these days is sticking out their tongues. What is even sadder is that even nice people do it. It certainly is not attractive. I think it looks perverted. Why do they do that?
Would Grace Kelly do it?

Silliness, nerves, rudeness, shyness (trying to do something far bolder than their comfort zone would ideally like to mask how shy they may be feeling in a given setting), drunkenness, the list goes on, but there are certainly many reasons why someone (over the age of early childhood, when such antics are a bit easier to justify just based on age alone) might do something like that, which I agree, unless it's a group "silly" photo, is completely uncouth and uncalled for. Another that I'm even less of a fan of is when people make peace symbols in photos. Don't get me wrong, I adore peace and the peace symbol in the right context, but just doing it in a photo to look cool/hip, is not to my personal tastes in the slightest.

*PS* You blessed me with such kindness today via your immensely lovely comment on my post about blogging. Thank you deeply, sweet Hope.
You know, Jessica...I was hesitant to post this, but I was freshly frustrated with it on Facebook yesterday and just needed to say something. Thanks for "listening" and for your great response. I appreciate your relating to me by sharing a little of what you find unappealing, as well.

Agree...agree...agree!
ReplyDeleteOne word I teach my children... Class.
Be classy. Have class.
I fear that is disappearing in our world.
Thanks for this, my friend!
