We have had a swing in our backyard tree for the last 17 years.
Today, this huge tree will be coming down.
~ Liquidambar spiky balls~
These sharp little buggers cover the yard in spring and fall. You don't want to step on them barefoot.
My husband has been wanting to cut down this tree for years because of these messy, spiky ball.
Alas...we shall miss the old swing.

Oh, my friend! How beautiful! Not just the pictures and the words, but the meaning behind them.
ReplyDeleteI can imagine the memories you have with your littles on that swing...
Tuck them into your heart!
Have a cozy day!
Good evening, sweet Hope~
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful tree with such sweet memories. I love tree swings and understand how much it will be missed. How nice it will be though to be able to walk barefoot through your yard without the chance of stepping on those spikey balls.
Blessings to you and yours~

What an end of an era for your family and your property. There was a tall, regal maple tree (it was decades old) that stood in front of the little Edwardian two story house my family lived in for a time here in Penticton when I was growing up, whose roots were something of a menace. Though it remained in place the whole time we resided there, subsequent owners knocked it down a few years later and to this day, whenever I pass by that house, it still seems like something is missing for me without the maple there. Hard as it can be do so though, especially with a tree that you've lived with for so long, sometimes though, one must come down if it's being a nuisance in some capacity, as this one is for your family. You have the memories of it, as I do with that maple, and that is ultimately the most important thing in such a case.
ReplyDeleteTons of hugs & joyful weekend wishes,

*PS* Thank you very much for your fantastic comment on my post about Manhattan Hippy Vintage. You summed up Marcy's store and offerings superbly.
Dear Hope, I'm sorry but I have to side with your husband on this one! I grew up with a big Sweet Gum tree by the back door and WOW did they hurt my feet growing up! I hate those spiney balls! Maybe you could buy a frame with a porch swing and make new memories!
